Nourish your body, support a good cause
We believe we have the power to improve the world, one small gesture at a time. That's why ELIXYR is committed to redistributing 100% of its profits from the first 12 months of operations to non-profit organizations that aim to promote youth sports participation.
HBCD isn't just a marketing buzzword: it's a real evolution in carbohydrate sources, particularly suited for prolonged endurance sports (marathons, trail running, long-distance cycling, triathlon).
Unlike traditional carbohydrates (linear maltodextrin, glucose, isolated fructose), it has a very particular structure: a cyclic molecule with numerous branches. This gives it unique properties:
- Very low osmolality even at high concentrations. Traditional carbohydrates, when dosed at 60–90 g/L, increase gastric osmolality → slow emptying, feeling of heaviness, risk of reflux or diarrhea. HBCD remains at a low osmolality (~100–150 mOsm/kg) even at high concentrations. Result: ultra-fast gastric emptying, even when you load 80–100 g/h. This is the ingredient that has allowed athletes to go from tolerated 60 g/h to 90–120 g/h without gastrointestinal upset.
- Progressive energy without glycemic spikes or crashes. Thanks to its branched structure, HBCD is digested and absorbed more steadily than linear maltodextrin or pure glucose. No brutal insulin spike, no hypoglycemic crash 30–45 min later. Energy is delivered continuously, which is crucial for efforts lasting 2 hours or more.
In Elixyr, 30% HBCD makes this premium technology accessible to all amateur athletes.
Unlike a 100% glucose or maltodextrin-only intake, the 2:1 ratio allows the body to use two different intestinal transporters (SGLT1 for glucose, GLUT5 for fructose), which increases the maximum carbohydrate absorption capacity per hour.
Proven benefits:
- Maximum absorption
With 100% glucose, the ceiling is ~60 g/h (SGLT1 limit).
With 2:1, it easily goes up to 90 g/h and even 120 g/h in gut-trained athletes – without transporter saturation. - Higher energy and hitting the wall later
More absorbed carbohydrates = more exogenous oxidation during exercise → less reliance on muscle glycogen → delayed fatigue by 10–30% during efforts >2 hours. - Better digestive tolerance at high doses
Meta-analyses (Stellingwerff 2014, Pfeiffer 2019) show that the 2:1 ratio significantly reduces gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, cramps) compared to 100% glucose when exceeding 60–70 g/h.
In Elixyr, we strictly apply this 2:1 ratio because it is the dose that allows amateur athletes to aim for 90 g/h (and more) without compromise.
During prolonged exertion (trail running, marathon, cycling >2 hours, triathlon), sweat carries away significant quantities of minerals. Without adequate compensation, the fluid balance deteriorates, plasma volume decreases, and performance drops: accelerated fatigue, cramps, reduced power, or even hyponatremia in the case of excessive water intake without salt.
The targeted composition—350 mg of sodium + 150 mg combined of calcium, magnesium, and potassium—aims precisely to counteract these losses:
- Sodium (350 mg) remains the number 1 element: it is the electrolyte most lost in sweat (average 500–1500 mg per liter depending on individuals and conditions). It maintains blood volume, stimulates intestinal reabsorption of fluids and carbohydrates, and activates physiological thirst. Concrete result: better fluid retention, more efficient gastric emptying, and preservation of performance over long distances (less dehydration >2% and fewer risks of cramps related to hypovolemia).
- Calcium, magnesium, and potassium (150 mg in total): these three minerals play a direct role in muscle contraction/relaxation, nerve transmission, and ATP production. Even if their sweat losses are lower (K+ ~150–400 mg/L, Mg and Ca <<), their complementary intake helps limit neuromuscular fatigue and early cramps, especially when exertion extends and intracellular reserves are depleted.
In Elixyr, these 500 mg of scientifically balanced electrolytes offer a realistic and accessible optimization: enough to compensate for a significant portion of endurance losses, without unnecessary excess or excessive plasma dilution.
Many endurance drinks, gels, and powders are sold at a premium price, boasting endless lists of ingredients: BCAAs, citrulline, taurine, guarana extract, ginseng, ginkgo, L-carnitine, nitrates, excess B vitamins, etc. The problem? These additions are often present in quantities too small to produce a measurable effect on prolonged endurance performance (>2 h). You pay extra for "phantom ingredients" that bring nothing concrete – no more energy, no better recovery, no less fatigue – while the real levers (absorbable carbohydrates + electrolytes) are sometimes underdosed.
Elixyr takes the opposite approach: a short, targeted, and scientifically relevant formula. Nothing is added "to look good" or to inflate marketing.
Here's why this minimalist approach makes a difference:
- Exclusive focus on what is proven and effectively dosed
Carbohydrates (including 30% HBCD for rapid absorption and high tolerance) + 500 mg of electrolytes (350 mg sodium + calcium/magnesium/potassium) are the only nutrients with a direct and demonstrated impact on hydration, gastric emptying, cramp prevention, and maintaining power in endurance. No traces of BCAAs (useless during effort for most athletes), no 500 mg citrulline (effective dose ~6-8 g), no exotic plant extracts without real-world proof, etc.
The result: a clean, digestible, and high-performing formula, accessible without marketing overhead. When you consume Elixyr, you know exactly what you're ingesting and why – and you don't feel like you're funding empty promises.
